Coffee @ Carey Grand Opening 27th July 2021 by Rt Hon Andrea Leadsom MP at 10:30am

Join us as we celebrate the grand opening of this amazing community venture which brings old and young, new and established residents together. Coffee @ Carey currently incorporates a community café, book/jigsaw shelter, and rhyme time for babies and toddlers. The longer-term aim is to also provide a shared workspace facility and a youth offering.

Hackleton is a geographically large parish in South Northants incorporating Hackleton, Horton, Piddington, Preston Deanery, St George's Fields and part of Wootton Fields. Carey Baptist Church sits in the middle of the parish. It is a useful building which has not been being fully utilised.

During the Parish Council Public Consultation for the Hackleton Neighbourhood Development Plan it became very apparent that residents were asking for a meeting place for the community with refreshment facilities

The church wanted to offer a facility which did not compete with existing businesses. The idea of Coffee @ Carey was born, offering good quality coffee, speciality teas, tempting cakes and treats. The vision was to offer a fun, welcoming venue where people of different ages can volunteer, interact and talk to people they wouldn't normally meet.

With the plan formulated, the Parish Council provided its full support and financial assistance. Building adjustments were completed by local tradesmen who gave great service. A few private individuals and Hackleton WI also contributed financially.

Coffee @ Carey has been open for a few weeks. Customers have commented on the friendly vibe, great décor, and have given positive feedback to their experience. Currently, our youngest community volunteers are teenagers and our oldest is in her eighties.

The Book/Jigsaw Shelter is building a small but steady clientele. The books moved inside Carey Chapel, from the bus shelter, at the request and funding of Hackleton Parish Council.
