VE Day Celebrations

We are really looking forward to our community celebrations which will take place on Friday 8th May 2020 to commemorate VE day. We hope to bring the whole of the Parish together for a picnic and fun filled traditional fete on Longland Meadow from noon. This part of the day will conclude at 3pm when we join with the rest of the UK to raise a glass for the nations toast to the heroes of World War 2.

After a bit of a break we will all re-join together for the lighting of the beacon, tributes and music.

We are looking for ideas and volunteers to help with such things as:

  • Traditional games including bob the apple, shove ha'penny, splat the rat, stocks, tombola, coconut shy, wellie wanging and tug of war.
  • Races and competitions for adults and children including sack racing, wheelbarrow racing, a cake baking competition and dog show.
  • Exhibits and side shows to entertain everybody.

We are looking for people to come forward with more ideas or volunteers to man a side show or run a competition. Also to add to the occasion we are hoping for a Master of Ceremonies, May Queen, May King and attendants.

Our next meeting is Tuesday 25th February 2020 at 7pm in the Annexe of Hackleton Village Hall. Please come along and join us or contact Alison Benson, Clerk to Hackleton Parish Council clerk@hackletonparishcouncil.gov.uk
